The trend of modern plumbing is to install fixtures that enable
the bathroom to be kept clean and spotless with a minimum of
effort. The bathroom illustrated above has ideal equipment for
moderate priced houses, apartments, etc. It is easily kept clean,
as there is no space under any of the fixtures where dust and dirt
can accumulate. For the greater part, all the cocks, valves, etc.,
are concealed in the wall and so there are few metal parts to tarnish
or discolor. A few extra dollars spent on your bathroom will not
only bring you health and comfort but more than add its value to
the sale price of \-our house.

Narrospace

The "Narrospace" Bathroom, illustrated above, is a room
5'x7', and gives an idea of how modern fixtures can be installed in a
very small space.

To-day the modern house is being built with at least one bath-
room to every two bedrooms and a Built-in Tub with Shower
permits it without the necessity of adding considerably to the
dimensions of the house.

Very often, in the earlier designed houses, store-rooms, clothes-
closets, or even a corner off an extremely large bedroom can be
utilized for such purposes, and the advantages of the second bath-
room be gained at very little cost.

The Bath and Shower Fixtures with concealed valves, illust-
rated on the following pages all have valves of the type shown in
the cross-section above. The china escutcheon is fitted with a
threaded metal collar in its base and there is also a locknut which
goes on the inside of the partition so that by working these two
parts an adjustment of from ^ to % of an inch can be had to take
care of any variation in the thickness of the tile. The seat in the
valve is renewable and placed as close to the face of the wall as pos-
sible and the right hand cut shows the method of removing and
replacing it. Emco concealed valves are made so that they can be
installed for all time and without the necessity of any plumbing
corridor or special access panel behind — all wearable parts are re-
newable from the front and the fixed parts will outlive the building
itself.

The above view of the Emco Mixing Valve shows the working
parts and the operation of the valve parts. When the handle No. 5
is in the extreme left hand position, both the hot and cold water are
entirely shut off. A movement of the handle towards the right,
acting through the yoke No. 3, begins to move the hot and cold water
valve plungers No. 7 and No. 14 away from the seat. The two
plungers travel equally, but the cold water begins to flow while the hot
water port is still closed. Turning the handle further toward the right,
the cold water port reaches a full open position after which further
movement of the handle starts the opening of the hot water port,
and begins to close down in the cold water opening. As the handle
continues to move toward the right, the cold water port is ultimately
closed off entircK'. whWe the hot water port reaches its full open
position

An important feature of the Emco Mixer is the closing of the valve with
the pressure. The possibility of leakage is greatly reduced and adds to the

life of the Seat.
